Oxalic acid does not penetrate the wax, therefore it does not kill mites inside the capped brood cells and, therefore, the presence of brood may significantly reduce the efficacy of the veterinary medicinal product. Before applying the product, the level of brood and the climatic conditions should be considered. The mode of action of the product is only by direct contact (by contact of the adult bees with the oxalic acid in the strip and by bee-to-bee contact). Therefore, the product should be applied when the bees are still active, i.e. before the bees form a winter flock, the exact timing of which may vary between climate zones. Despite adequate treatment, severely damaged colonies may not survive due to previous effects of Varroa infestation. Efficacy may vary between colonies due to conditions of use (temperature, reinfestations, etc.).
